UNITED STATES. Not buying it

Trump bets a bounced cheque for a poll bounce.

Donald Trump said he would pay every American adult $5,000 if Republicans won the midterms. The Treasury said it would buy up to $6 billion in 10 and 20-year bonds Thursday, triple the size of its last buyback, as 10-year yields hit 4.8%.

INTELLIGENCE. At the Republican convention in Dallas, Trump signalled both
