Risking war to get to peace is as stupid as it sounds.
Israel attacked Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs early Friday, a move the US described as "unilateral". Islamic Revolutionary Guards chief Hossein Salami was confirmed dead alongside several colleagues. Oil prices jumped 12%.
INTELLIGENCE. A crisis was not imminent. For Israel’s immediate security the strikes were unnecessary. Washington has distanced itself. Following a UN confab on Palestine, Israel is even more isolated. Benjamin Netanyahu's domestic problems have again trumped strategic interests. Buried deep, Iran's centrifuges likely remain intact. A blow has again been dealt to the IRGC, but Iran has a strategic depth Israel, with the size and population of New Jersey, lacks.
FOR BUSINESS. As Hamas disrupted Israel's rapprochement with Saudi Arabia, Israel is disrupting a US deal with Iran. Many will feel it was the only choice, but by upstaging Donald Trump’s negotiations, Netanyahu has risked his country’s security in more ways than one. Tehran has vowed retaliation. Israel's hospitals have been put on a wartime footing. Trump has convened the National Security Council. Traders are eyeing a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

Boeing has a problem Trump can’t fix.
An Air India 787-8 crashed Thursday, killing 241 on board and 28 on the ground. The Federal Aviation Commission said there was no immediate cause to ground 787 flights. The FAA's nominee vowed Wednesday to press Boeing on safety.
